Polk Resolution on Elections Passed by the BoCC on 090324

Added:

On the morning of September 3rd, the Polk County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) passed a Resolution on Election Integrity and Security with a vote of 3-2. The resolution, presented by citizens Richard and Becky Nutt, Aaron Rye, Royal Brown III, and Bobby Dees, focused on enhancing election integrity and security in Polk County. Supported by the United Sovereign Americans group, it is the first of its kind in Florida to be approved by a county commission.

During the meeting, Commissioner Neil Combee praised the group’s thorough preparation and timely presentation of the resolution, indicating it was well-considered. However, outgoing Commissioner George Lindsey raised concerns about the resolution’s wording, suggesting it might go beyond the usual scope of BOCC resolutions and recommended a legal review before any further consideration.

Despite the concerns by Lindsey, Commissioner Combee moved for a vote, which was seconded by Commissioner Bill Braswell. The resolution was approved with Commissioners Combee, Braswell, and Wilson voting in favor, while Commissioners Santiago and Lindsey abstained.

This decision is a significant step towards strengthening election integrity and security in Polk County and could set a precedent for other Florida counties. The approval by Commissioners Combee, Braswell, and Wilson is seen as a victory for advocates of enhanced election safeguards.
